Sol y Sombra: The Homey Stay in Boracay, Philippines

Let’s get wanderlusted in Boracay! In case you haven’t heard, Boracay just re-opened in October 2018. I was in the Philippines in January so I used my last 3 days of my visa-free visit to get to Boracay to get to know what’s the hype is all about. When I was there, I stayed in the Sol y Sombra Hotel. Sol y Sombra is a small boutique hotel located in Station 1, Boracay, the Philippines which offers a homey and comfy stay during your vacation with a slightly rustic style. Through this blog post, I will tell you my wonderful stay at Sol y Sombra, Boracay.

Location and Transportation

It is located in Station 1, Boracay, Philippines and it is less crowded compared to Station 3 that’s the closest area to the Cagban Jetty Port (Boracay Island). I personally like a quieter place for my vacation so Station 1 is perfect for me. You don’t need to worry about eating place, there are a lot of places nearby. For the exact location, please click me.

To get there, you can use a tricycle as a transportation or motorcycle taxi. I took a transportation package from the Caticlan Airport (Godofredo P. Ramos Airport) which includes a shared van to Caticlan Jetty Port, the fastest way to get to the jetty (without queuing), jetty ticket, and shared transport to the designated hotel. I paid 500 pesos per person for that service (US$ 10). On the way back to the jetty port, I took a motorcycle taxi which cost me 150 pesos per person (US$ 3).

Apart from the Caticlan Airport, you can also get a flight to Kalibo but it’s not as close as Caticlan to Boracay. Instead of going there without prior transport booking as I did, you can book it online because it’s hassle-free and with free cancelation when you use the links I provide below.

Sol y Sombra has various rooms depending on your needs. I stayed in the standard room which has a comfy queen bed with aesthetically pleasing decorations. Everything works fabulously here, the air conditioner, the hot bath, the toilet, the hairdryer, and other electronic devices there.

Activities

Boracay Activities
The activity list that you can choose to do in Boracay

The picture shown above is several activities you can do in Boracay. You just need to pick and the hotel staff will help you book it even if it’s for the next day! I arrived late in the Boracay due to the flight delay and the closing of the main street for the festival also I only had 3 days there. So, most of the travel agents are already closed but I wanted to join a boat tour for the next day. I told the staff at like 9 pm and it was booked for the next day. Just as simple as that.

But in my opinion, the best thing you can do is enjoying White Beach since it’s so close. It’s literally a walkaway. The sand is so soft and white, frankly, it’s not hot during midday. The water is crystal blue making you too lazy to leave. You will be able to enjoy a beautiful sunset as well since White Beach is located on the west side of the island.

Final Thoughts

I enjoyed my overall stay in the Sol y Sombra Boracay. My favorite is their bed, it’s definitely one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept. Be careful that you won’t be able to wake up the next morning though ;). The staff and the manager were really friendly and helpful during my stay. You can book Sol y Sombra through various booking services like Expedia, Agoda, Airbnb, and Traveloka but I suggest you book through their website right here. Why? Because through that link, you will be able to get 40% off the price for same day booking. It sounds like a great deal, doesn’t it?

Thank you so much for reading my blog post, I hope you find this helpful. If you’re coming to El Nido as well, click me to read my recommended place to stay in there.
